PBS Social Emotional Learning Collections

PBS has several collections of resources to help create a sense of community in the classroom.   One collection specifically addresses teachers.  Other collections incorporate lessons, videos, and activities to help students build their social and emotional muscles.

Kids learn how to deal with bullies, as well as skills in cooperation, communication, and conflict resolution.  Other collections foster kindness, empathy, and resilience.

You can browse the collections by grade level, type of media, and subject tie-ins.

Teaching Tolerance

Tolerance.org provides educational resources to teachers that aim to reduce prejudice, improve intergroup relations, and support equitable school experiences for students. To that end, the site provides professional development material suitable for workshops, a searchable database of lesson plans, film kits that can be ordered for free, school-wide activity ideas, an online magazine, and webinars.

Don’t Laugh at Me

Through music, video, and classroom activities, the “Don’t Laugh at Me” (DLAM) curriculum helps sensitize children to the painful effects of harmful behaviors – ridicule, disrespect, ostracism and bullying. The curriculum addresses four key areas: expressing and managing feelings, building community, resolving conflict creatively, and celebrating diversity.

The site provides a 19-lesson curriculum, as well as the music and videos that accompany the lessons. One section of the site discusses the research and statistics that back up this approach.
