From site:  GeograBEE is a BEEweb game where players supply each other with (US) geography problems. Once the players build a problem, they are sent across the Internet to each other to solve. GeograBEE builds skills in memory for states, capitals, regions of the country, and shape recognition. But it is also a fast paced and fun way to study this curriculum which is required of all schoolchildren in the country.

In a BEEweb game your goal is to gain as many points as you can in several rounds of game play. You can gain points in two different ways. First, when asked to solve a Problem, you will gain points if you solve it correctly. Second, when you create a challenge for your partner, you will gets points based on how hard it is and whether they can solve it in time.

From site:  One day, Kansas wakes up grumpy. The other 49 states are stretching, yawning, and pouring maple syrup onto each other's pancakes, but irritable Kansas announces to his kindly neighbor Nebraska that life is dull and changes must be made: "All day long we just sit here in the middle of the country. We never GO anywhere. We never DO anything, and we NEVER meet any NEW states!" Nebraska, sick of hearing North Dakota and South Dakota bicker all the time, agrees to help organize a party for all the states. It's a hit! Late into the evening, Idaho and Virginia get up onto the stage and suggest that all the states change places. What a state of affairs. Minnesota, who switches places with Florida, gets a sunburn. Kansas, having traded places with Hawaii, gets lonely and sings some soggy blues so sad that a shark sheds a mournful tear offshore. Nevada and Mississippi fall in love. Despite the initial excitement, the new arrangement just doesn't feel right. The states manage to swim, fly, bike, and hitchhike their way home, and everyone goes to bed in the right place--even Kansas is happy to be home after such an adventure. This wacky, thoroughly engaging tale of mixed-up geography is a good bet for some awards. Perhaps best of all, the large format and riot of detail allow for plenty of amusing asides. Books that claim to "make geography fun" usually have to be taken with a dose of skepticism: so often, the teaching is there and the entertainment isn't. This delightfully quirky and original book shows how it should be done.

Also has a companion board game, Scrambled States of America. Quick! Find a state that ends with the letter A. Now find one that borders Tennessee. Have fun learning about the United States in this madcap game of observation and quick reflexes. Collect cards by matching states to a Scramble card. Or "Go the Distance" and find a state's closest neighbor. Whoever scrambles to match and collect the most state cards wins. Includes 50 scramble cards, 50 state cards, 4 U.S. maps, and rules.

From site:  iKnowthat.com’s Geography Puzzle Maps is a collection of three programs that emphasize learning objectives related to the understanding and application of physical and political maps...  Kids can learn where places are located and what characteristics make them special.

  • In the Puzzle activity, kids place puzzle pieces in their correct locations on a map. They can see where one place is located in relation to another and hear the correct pronunciation of the place’s name.

  • In the Clues activity, kids are given up to five clues to help them select the correct puzzle piece and fill in a map. Using deductive reasoning skills, kids learn about the physical and human characteristics of each place, such as

- Who lives there?
- What are the temperature and climate like there?
- When did important historical events occur there?
- Why are certain physical land features there?
- Where is the area located in the world?

  • In the Label activity, kids must put the correct ‘nametag’ on parts of a map. They also see the correct spelling and hear the correct pronunciation of the place’s name.

From site:  Maps help us make sense of our world. A sampling of the Library of Congress Geography and Map Division’s 4.5 million treasures has been digitized and is available in Map Collections: 1500 - 2003. This activity introduces historical maps from the American Memory collections. A Primary Source Analysis Tool for analysis and note taking has been provided. The teacher can use the Teachers Guide to Analyzing Maps to find guiding questions and activity ideas.

What can be learned from historic maps? In addition to teaching geographic understanding, maps do an excellent job of illustrating change over time. They personalize history by giving evidence of familiar landmarks and of people, their beliefs, and the political policies of an era.
