From site: The animations shown here are not meant to be stand-alone devices, but rather to be supportive material for the classroom. I made them as streamlined and simple as possible so that they can be used at different levels and in different ways. Flexibility has been my goal.

In my own experience I have had students go to web sites to use a virtual lab or demonstration and get so lost in the verbiage that the experience did more harm than good. Therefore, no explanations come with these animations; the idea being that the teacher will provide his own explanation for his own students. The reason for this is to keep the usefulness for a wide variety of education levels. If you, as an educator, need more information on any of the animations before you use it in class, please contact me and I will be most happy to provide what you need.

LearningReviews.com note:  Animations include seasons, moon phases, gravity, tides, distance (in space), spectra and stellar evolution.

From site:  Deep in the center of stars there's a life-and-death battle being waged.

Inside of all stars there is a tug of war between gravity relentlessly squeezing the star smaller and smaller, and the energy provided by fusion pushing back. A star is a very delicate balance between the two.

From site: Welcome to Celestia... The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy...

Imagine being able to give students the ability to take control of their own "hyperdrive" spacecraft and fly to any part of our amazing universe they wish, at any time in history. Visualize looking out a ship window at a vista of galaxies, stars, nebula, black holes, planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, comets and spacecraft. Envision the excitement of not only seeing but also hearing their ship's sounds and many of the environmental sounds present at places they visit. Then, consider being provided a comprehensive and detailed written Astronomy lesson on what they were seeing and hearing!

From site:  Communicating the world of infrared astronomy to the public is the main topic of the “Cool Cosmos” portal but certainly not its only goal. In the past few years the “Cool Cosmos” team has created a wide variety of educational products that explain the infrared as well as the multi-wavelength universe. We've produced a suite of award-winning websites (coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu) that speak to audiences as varied as kindergarteners to amateur astronomers. We've also filmed short videos about astronomy and infrared light and created posters and brochures that have become favorites with NASA education specialists as well as classroom teachers.

From site:  So you're asking, what is ASTRONOMY? Well... Here's our best definition. Astronomy is the study of SPACE and the changes that take place in and around all objects moving through space. It's more than just Earth and our Solar System. The study of astronomy covers every planet, object, and bit of energy flowing through the universe.

So where did the word cosmos come from? It's actually a Greek word that describes an orderly and interconnected universe. Astronomy is the study of that universe and as you learn more, you will discover how each part is connected to the others.

But where do you start? There are moons, planets, stars, systems, and galaxies. We'll start with the big picture and a general overview of the universe. Go take a look!
