From site:  Welcome to this web-based accounting tutorial. This tutorial was initiated as part of the Technology Advantage Program in West Virginia. That program focused on the innovative uses of technology in the support of higher education. The tutorial is being expanded and maintained by the original author with the support of West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV and West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Montgomery, WV...

The designed features and content of this tutorial represent an initial effort to produce an aid to learning the basics of bookkeeping and accounting.

The tutorial contains learning modules that are designed to look and work the same. Our goal is to have simple-to-use, fast-loading pages that produce results - not excitement with "bells and whistles". The basic design of each module is:

  • Discussion of Topic: a brief discussion containing key learning points and possible helpful hints.
  • Go to Questions: a link at the end of each discussion to take you to a choice of questions.
  • Questions: each is a multiple-choice type question relevant to the topic being studied.
  • Answers: each letter choice is a link to an explanation of why the answer is wrong or if it is correct.
  • Explanation: describes why the answer is wrong or if it is correct

From site:  This tutorial is general in nature, and is meant to help focus your studies, and provide a review of major concepts introduced in each chapter. It is not meant to be a substitute for your textbook. It is a "work in progress" and will be edited, and added to, on an ongoing basis. I only cover textbook chapters used in my online accounting classes; other chapters have been omitted, although they contain valuable information.

Much of the information in the tutorial is what I give my students in a live classroom environment. They are essentially my lectures, boiled down and put on a web page. And then I add more information just for my online students.

From site:  This free bookkeeping tutorial is geared to business owners, managers, and individuals who have not had any formal bookkeeping training or on the job experience and need or want to learn the basics of bookkeeping. In other words, this tutorial is for beginners (newbies) or those needing a quick refresher and is only an introduction into the world of accounting. They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Well my goal is to make you dangerous.
